The successor to the WS22.  It was originally designated as WS22 Mk II.  The WS62 was tropicalised and could float without suffering water damage.  It was also, like the WS19, used extensively by the British Airborne.  Although there is some un-certainty as to whether it saw actual service during Operation market Garden.

The WS62 had a better reception performance than the WS22 and, due to it's aluminium construction, weighed just over half as much: 30lb compared to 56lb.  It was primarily intended as a vehicle station but could also be carried  by two animals or three men; complete with the accumulator and 60W pedal generator for recharging batteries.   The set was similar to the WS18 but with different frequency ranges.

During the 1950's; a civilian version was produced (WS62 MkII - Upgraded) where it was used as a
general purpose, high frequency fixed or mobile station by police, oil companies, postal administrations and similar authorities. Operation of the equipment was simplified to such an extent that operators needed the minimum of instruction. Facilities provided by the WS62 were RT and CW with provision for netting the operating frequency to a base station.

The set draws the following currents at 12v.

         Send (RT) 4.2A
         Send (CW) 4.5A
         Receive (all on) 3.2A
         Listening Watch (Receive on) 2.6A
